Review: New Girl 2.07

Things moved forward on a funny episode of “New Girl” this week.

Winston (Lamorne Morris) thought he had synched up with Jess’ (Zooey Deschanel) menstrual cycle. Jess had the line of the night with “I wanna murder someone, and I also want a soft pretzel.” I also liked Schmidt (Max Greenfield) saying that men can’t get periods; where would they put the tampon?

Carla Gugino was great as Schmidt’s new love interest at work, and played crazy well. I read an interview with Gugino where she said she wasn’t familiar with the “50 Shades of Grey” series, which this story is likely a takeoff of.

Cece (Hannah Simone) also tried to hook up with Schmidt after her boyfriend suggested she was a nice girl, but ultimately couldn’t do that to him. I’m not really sure what the point of all of that was.

The story with Nick (Jake Johnson) and his new silent friend kind of reminded me of his interactions with “future Nick” earlier this season, though the payoff in the pool was hilarious. Nick then used that method with Jess to get her motivated again. She used that to get a job and contribute to the apartment’s bills again.

With Jess’ fling over and her employed again, and Schmidt in a new relationship, things are moving in different directions again.
