Guilbaut began his acting at the age of nine, while attending a French immersion elementary school in Vancouver. He continued to act throughout high school, performing in several plays including Private Wars, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Fiddler on the Roof. He went on to study Theatre, Film and History at UBC, where both his parents were professors. While there, he landed the starring role in the CBC series Daring and Grace: Teen Detectives. Guilbaut also had a recurring role on CBC's Edgemont.
