Daniel McVicar

A strong dramatic and comedic actor, Daniel McVicar continues to be sought after not only in the U.S. but in the broader international market as well. Along with his marquis role as Clarke Garrison on "The Bold and the Beautiful," McVicar has been creating quite a stir on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson", where he is Craig's nemesis at CBS Television City in multiple appearances. In these wildly funny "dramatic moments," McVicar has sparked great audience and critical response. Raised in Colorado with 11 brothers and sisters, McVicar's first comedic ventures were around their very large dinner table at a young age. Continuing with acting through high school, at the age of 19, he decided to try his luck in Hollywood and moved out west to enroll at the California Institute of Arts. Soon after, to expand his repertoire, Dan began working with the Comedy Story Improvisation Troupe. For more dramatic grit, McVicar then spent a year at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. His professional debut, upon return from London, was on "The Young and the Restless" after an audition with a monologue from a Eugene O'Neill play. He soon began booking recurring roles on a variety of television series. Within a year, his original Eugene O'Neill audition from the "The Young and the Restless" still fresh on the mind of the casting director of "The Bold and the Beautiful," Daniel was called in to read. He was immediately cast as ambitious fashion designer Clarke Garrison, a role he played from 1987-1992, when he left to pursue other film and TV offers. Most memorably, he played Rock Hudson in "Liz: The Elizabeth Taylor Story". The Miniseries aired on NBC during ratings sweeps, and McVicar was critically recognized for his performance of Hudson from his peak days in "Giant" to his final days when Hudson was stricken with AIDS. As a result of "The Bold and The Beautiful's" tremendous success globally, including in many European countries where the series has achieved cult status, McVicar has become one of Europe's most popular stars, appearing in Italy on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Uomo and making frequent press appearances throughout the region. An admirer of European films, McVicar soon endeavored to stretch his talents and challenge himself further, taking on European film roles along side some of the world's most talented international stars and directors. Italy became like a second home to McVicar as he starred in a number of projects there. Most notably, he starred opposite Ben Gazzara in two projects, the television miniseries "Woman on the Run" where he worked opposite screen legend Gina Lollobrigida, and "A Kiss in the Dark" with Garazza and Patricia Millardet, as well as starring in "Under the Sky" for filmmaker Angelo Antonucci. Other international projects followed including his most challenging, "The Fourth Planet," directed by award winning Russian filmmaker Dimitris Astrakhan. Although Daniel starred as American astronaut Sam Straiton, the role called for him to speak entirely in Russian, which he had to learn while shooting on location in St. Petersberg. Daniel credits that role as one of his most engaging, challenging, and rewarding acting experiences. Because of his popularity with "The Bold and the Beautiful" fan base at home, and ever-growing popularity throughout the "Beautiful" empire, CBS came calling again, and in February of 1996, Daniel rejoined the series. Although he still continues on as Clarke Garrison, these days you are just as likely to see McVicar as Craig Ferguson's arch nemesis on "The Late Late Show", where he cameos frequently, or hosting comedy nights at local Hollywood comedy clubs.
