Shaquille O'Neal was born on March 6, 1972 in Newark, New Jersey. O'Neal spent some of his childhood in Germany where his stepfather was stationed with the U.S. army. O'Neal fractured his wrists when he was trying to imitate Superman, explaining why he isn't good at free throws. He first gained national attention when playing on his high school basketball team. O'Neal attended Louisiana State University and was the basketball team's star player. O'Neal was drafted into the NBA first overall in the 1992 draft by the Orlando Magic. After a very good first year, he was named the 1993 NBA Rookie of the Year. Later, he stared in a film, "Blue Chips" and started rapping. In his third season, O'Neal led the league in scoring. The Magic made it to the NBA Finals, but were beaten by the Houston Rockets. In 1996, O'Neal played in the Olympics, winning a gold medal. After the Olympics, O'Neal left the Magic to become a Los Angeles Laker. The first three seasons on the Lakers weren't great, but Phil Jackson was hired as coach, and the team won three consecutive NBA titles(2000-2002). It is rumored that his relationship with fellow teammate, Kobe Brayant was very rocky. On July 14, 2004, O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat. Shaq still plays on the Miami Heat to this day.
