The Born - Recap

Legends tells of a Barbarian Gladiator, known as the Night Demon, who fought in the arenas of ancient Rome. Sponsored by Sertorius, the Night Demon defeated all animals and men who were sent against him. Later, Sentorius summoned his gladiator to his quarters and admitted that he knew of the Night Demon as a half-breed: feeding on human blood but able to survive in the daylight. The Barbarian Gladiator says that he work as a human instrument to learn of their instincts and behavior, and Sertorius offers him the chance for great learning as a warrior on the field of battle.



At the loft, Dutch wakes up to find Vasiliy watching her. She apologizes for not being at the church to defend Zach against Kelly, and merely says that she working through some things. Dutch wants to go to the apartment to get some spare clothing, and Vasiliy suggests that she move in permanently at his loft. The hacker agrees but warns that it's not a permanent commitment.

When Dutch and Vasiliy arrive at Dutch's apartment, they find the door locked. Vasiliy kicks it in and figures that squatters move din since vampires don't lock doors. They search the place and find someone hiding beneath the stairs: Nikki, Dutch's missing lover.

At Stoneheart, Eldritch tells Coco that he was considering a ride later and asks Coco if she wants to accompany him. As she agrees, Joshua comes in and mentions Eph. Eldritch hastily asks Coco to get him some tea. Once she leaves, Joshua tells his boss that Eph killed the assassin in DC, but they have the bioweapon. Eldritch notes that Eph could reformulate the bioweapon, and Joshua tells him that they've lost Eph.

A wounded Eph returns to NYC and geos to a bar. In the restroom, he cleans out his wound with a bottle of liquor and drinks the rest. Eph then goes to the bar and orders several bourbons.



Nikki explains that the strigoi chased her away from the convenience store during the siege, but soon lost interest in her. Dutch explains that she's been staying with Abraham and the others at the loft, and Vasiliy proudly says that Dutch is a hell of a fighter. Nikki admits that she sprained her ankle during the chase and made her way to the apartment, and has been hiding there ever since. Dutch kisses Nikki and Vasiliy points out that Abraham is waiting for them back at the loft. The hacker suggests that Nikki should move into the loft with them, and helps her pack.

The trio returns to the loft and Dutch has Nora take a look at Nikki's ankle. Abraham says that they need to go to the factory Reggie told them about, and Vasiliy demands to talk to Dutch alone. They go into the next room and Vasiliy asks if Dutch is going to ask her about the money and laptop that disappeared from her apartment. Dutch doesn't see the point and Vasiliy points out that she hasn't told Nikki about them. The hacker says that Nikki needs some time, and so does she. She passes on going to the factory and assures Vasiliy that he can handle it. As Dutch goes back to Nikki, Abraham calls Vasiliy along.

At the factory, Vasiliy and Abraham break in and Vasiliy complains about Dutch's behavior. Abraham isn't interested, and warns that he has an instinct that something bad is happening there. They go inside and find an abandoned school bus for blind children. As they look around, a Stoneheart operative secretly watches them. Quinlan finds and kills him as he calls his superiors.



At the loft, Nikki asks Dutch about Vasiliy. As Nikki asks about sleeping arrangements, someone knocks at the door. It's Eph, and Dutch lets him in. She introduces him to Nikki and tells him that Vasiliy and Abraham are out. Eph says that he's going to Dutch and Vasiliy's room, and Nikki realizes that they're together.

Vasiliy and Abraham find a vat filled with earth and two dead Feelers next to it. Abraham explains that they were culled from the floor, and that the vat is a nursery. A Feeler comes out and Vasiliy tries to kill it, but it's too fast. Another one comes at Abraham, avoiding his sword strikes. More Feelers move in, but they hear something and move away. Quinlan enters the room and one of the Feelers attacks him. The half-breed easily kills it, then disposes of the others when they come at him using gun and sword. Quinlan then greets Abraham.

Eldritch and Coco take a helicopter over the city. She asks about Eph, and Eldritch claims that Eph murdered three people, including Everett. He points out that the outbreak could help the city eventually rebuild into something stronger.



Quinlan explains that the Ancients gave him Abraham's name and he followed him there. He introduces himself and says that they are both hunting the Master... and he has been hunting him all of his life.

Gorrim, Albania – 1873

Quinlan rides into the village own and a villager moving out explains that they are under a curse. The children were taken from their beds and spread the sleeping sickness to their kin. Quinlan knows about Josef Sardu living in the nearby castle and tells the villager that he is most likely too late. The half-breed rides on to the castle and enters, and finds a mound of earth on the floor. Sardu's cane is nearby, and a group of strigoi emerge from the shadows. Quinlan addresses the Master through the strigoi, figuring that he left them there to taunt him. He figures that the Master fears him and attacks the strigoi.

Now

The half-breed explains that the Ancients told him of a mortal who had injured the Master, and nods in honor of the achievement. He warns that the Master has taken a new form, and Abraham has led him to the Master's nesting place. Quinlan leaves and Abraham tells Vasiliy that must bring the factory down on the Master. Vasiliy says that it can be done, and Abraham goes after Quinlan while the exterminator sets the charges.



At the loft, Nora wakes Eph up and realizes that he's wounded. As she bandages the wound, she tells Eph about their encounter with Kelly. Nora tells Eph that he needs to talk to Zach about his mother, and warns that Kelly isn't going to stop. Eph apologizes for not being there for his son, and explains that everything he had hoped for was taken away by Eldritch. Nora figures that they can grow more of the bioweapon, but Eph doesn't believe that they have a chance.

When Vasiliy returns to the factory with explosives, there are emergency workers there. He tells them to get clear and they run off.

Abraham finds the Sardu body on the ground, long dead.

Quinlan finds the Master in Gabriel's body. The Master explains that he chose his new host for its loyalty, as Eichhorst steps out of the shadows. Quinlan wonders why the Master is conducting a high-profile siege, leaving himself vulnerable.



Vasiliy enters the factory and plants the explosives with one-minute timers.

Abraham arrives and Quinlan points out that the professor embarrassed the Master, and now he's going to destroy him. The Master promises that he will make Quinlan scream as he did his mother, and Quinlan charges forward as the factory comes down, sealing him off from the Master. He complains that Abraham cost him the chance to kill the Master and says that he will take the fight from there. As Quinlan walks off, Vasiliy arrives and Abraham tells him that the Master and Quinlan are both gone. Police sirens sound in the distance and Vasiliy leads Abraham out.

As night falls, Eph goes to Zach's room and hugs his son as Nora looks on. Eph explains that things didn't go as planned, and assures his son that he's back for good. He then tells Zach that when someone becomes a strigoi, their love for their "dear one" can become a tracking instinct. Zach knows about it from Abraham, and Eph promises Zach that he's going to keep him safe. His son points out that he hasn't been able to keep a promise yet, and Eph promises not to promise.

In the kitchen, Dutch advises Nikki to call her mother. She shows Nikki the flyers that Nikki's mother put up, just as Vasiliy and Abraham return. Vasiliy sees Dutch and Nikki together and says that he can wait to tell Dutch what happened. Eph comes down and Vasiliy says that he saved Zach because Eph wasn't around. When he sees Dutch and Nikki together, Eph realizes why Vasiliy is angry. Vasiliy starts to come at him, and then tells him to drink up and sarcastically invites everyone to make themselves at home. He walks out and Eph tells Dutch that he's not the one Vasiliy is running from.



Coco joins Eldritch in his penthouse and they share a drink. She says that she's learning a lot from him, and Eldritch says that he's realized how he was isolated from. Coco asks if he had any long-term relationships, and Eldritch admits that he has never had any relationships, short or long, because of his former health conditions. She suggests that they have another drink and asks where he sleeps, and goes up to look. Eldritch goes with her and Coco says that it needs a woman's touch. He warns that he would only disappoint, and Coco tells him to shut up. She then comes over and kisses him.

Abraham checks his books and discovers that Quinlan disappeared with the fall of the Roman Empire. There is no record of how he was created. Zach listens as Abraham says that Sertorius called his gladiator "The Born." The boy doesn't understand if it's a myth or real, and Abraham says that it's both.

Eph goes back to the bar to drink and finds Vasiliy there. The doctor admits that nothing went right in DC, and Vasiliy figures his relationship with Dutch was never meant to be. Eph says that he never figured Vasiliy as a quitter, and Vasiliy says that sometimes people quit on him. He wonders what Eph is going to do next, and Eph says that he's going to kill Eldritch.
