Big Brother (US)

Big Brother (US)

"Big Brother" is a long-running reality show on CBS where a group of contestants known as houseguests enter a house in Los Angeles, without being able to leave, or have contact with the outside world, and be monitored by cameras 24/7 while they compete in challenges, form alliances, and vote each other out of the house in the hopes of winning the $500,000 grand prize. They are not allowed to leave the house or its' backyard for any reason, they cannot see or read magazines or newspapers, no radios, no computers, no phones, no I pods or MP3 players and only the HOH is given a small portable CD player to listen to CD's left in the HOH room for them.

HOH stands for the Head of Household and once every week the guests in the house compete to try and win HOH and all the perks that go along with being the HOH for the week. The HOH gets’ their own private bedroom with a private bathroom, a huge bed, a small refrigerator and stuff sent to them by family and friends like, letters, pictures, CD's and food. Also every week the current HOH must select 2 houseguests to be put up on the block to be voted on to be evicted from the house that week.

Once a week 6 of the houseguests to include the HOH and the 2 nominees get to compete for the coveted Veto Award. The person who wins the Veto can elect to remove one of the nominees from the chopping block to include themselves if they are on the block. If one of the nominees is removed from the block then the HOH must immediately replace that nominee with a new houseguest.

Every week the houseguests one by one go into the secluded and soundproof diary room to make their selection on who they would like to see leave the house that week. The 2 houseguests on the block and the HOH cannot vote but in case of a tie the HOH would then vote to break the tie live. Once the votes are all in then the Host of the show Julie Chen announces to the houseguests the final results and the evicted houseguest has one minute to say goodbye and leave the house. The show begins with anywhere between 15 and 20 houseguests each season.

Once there is only 9 houseguests remaining in the house then the voted out houseguests from that point on after leaving the house are sequestered to a 2nd house called the Jury House. When the original house only has 2 guests remaining in the house then the 7 sequestered contestants are asked to vote for the person they wish to win the $500,000.00 grand prize.

Big Brother airs 3 times a week on Sunday at 8PM ET/PT, Tuesday at 9PM ET/PT and Thursday at 8pm ET/PT. The Thursday night show is almost always a live show and is presented by the Host of the series, the beautiful Julie Chen.

Big Brother = My Summer Guilty PleasureRating: 3 likes, 4 dislikes

Big Brother is the one summer show I watch year in and year out. I normally don't like reality shows -- hate is more like it -- but Big Brother had me hooked from the beginning. I don't know what it is about watching the hottest strangers CBS could find to live together in a house completely isolated from the world, but once the season ramps up, it's quality entertainment. 16x39: Episode #39 - Previously unseen footage, alliances & backstabbing - Day #92 recap: After Caleb’s eviction, Derrick and Cody hug it out. Now that Beast Mode Cowboy has been evicted, Derrick feels he is sitting pretty; his “No. 1 ally” and his “best friend in the house” are the only HouseGuests left, so he feels he couldn’t ask for a better situation. Victoria isn’t upset at all about Cody revealing the Hitmen to her, because she feels her alliance with Derrick is older and stronger! “He better take me,” she says of Derrick... read more.

16x40: Episode #40 – FINALE - The winner of Big Brother Season #16 is announced – Day #97 recap: Tonight we saw the final 3 houseguests remaining in the game compete in the last “HoH Competition” of the summer. Those 3 houseguests were Cody “The Flirter” who rode the coattails of his “Hitmen” buddy to the finale. Derrick “The Puppet Master” who was never up on the block even 1-time all season. Finally there was Victoria “The Floater” who broke the all-time Big Brother record for the number of times she was on the Block! The 1st part of the competition was one of endurance and stamina to see who could hold onto a bar on the bottom of a makeshift hang glider while being pounded by a torrential downpour of rain. Victoria was the 1st to fall off after about 40 minutes into the competition. After about 2 hours Derrick decided he had enough and dropped off giving the 1st part to Cody. Part 2 is an ancient Egypt themed competition where 1 houseguest at a time competed against the clock for the shortest time. They were strapped to a bungee cord type apparatus so they could easily scale a wall and had to match up the 2 houseguests that were on the block next to each other during each of the 14 eviction ceremonies. Since Cody won part 1 of this competition only Derrick and Victoria are competing. Victoria finished in 30 minutes and 3 seconds but Derrick had the best time with 15 minutes and 29 seconds so he won Part 2. Part 3 was contested by Cody and Derrick only since Victoria lost both Parts 1 & 2 of the competition. This is a guess what the Jury member said type question contests with 2 possible answers to each question. It was 8 questions total ending in a tie so they had to guess the number of seconds Part 1 of this final HoH Competition took to complete. Cody guessed 3,013 and Derrick guessed 3,120 and the correct answer was 3,600 meaning Cody became the final HoH of the season. Cody decided he would evict Victoria from the House and take his chances against his fellow “Hitmen” member and friend Derrick. The jury members were first shown outside the Jury house being questioned by Doctor Will Kirby the winner of Big Brother 2 in 2001. The jury members are then told they need to get the questions together that they wish to ask the remaining 2 houseguests later in the show. The 8th Jury member walks into the area and everyone is amazed that it was “Beast Mode Cowboy” Caleb. The 8 jury members are next seen entering the studio one at a time and sit down on stools. Julie then tells them that they can now meet their 9th and final jury member and out walks Victoria. The jury then begins asking the 2 remaining houseguests their questions. The jury puts their key in the box of who they want to win one at a time and then the first 5 evicted houseguests are brought out and sit down on the other side of the floor across from the jury members. Julie then reveals to the entire 16 houseguests the secrets of the season that most of them had no clue about. First she explained the “Team America” concept and then she turned to the big screen and said that Derrick had a secret he was keeping all summer as well. Derrick spoke up and explained to everyone that he was not what he claimed to be but he was really an undercover Cop. It’s now time to reveal the votes and who voted for who in the order that they placed their keys into the box. Jocasta voted for...Cody!, Hayden voted for...Derrick!, Zach voted for...Derrick!, Donny voted for...Cody!, Nicole voted for...Derrick!, Christine voted for...Derrick! and Frankie voted for...Derrick! and that gave the win to Derrick. The last 2 votes were then revealed to be Caleb voted for...Derrick! and Victoria voted for...Derrick! pretty much a landslide 7 – 2 vote. Up next was the “Fan Favorite” vote to see who won that as Julie said they had received the most votes this year of any season to date of over 10 Million votes. She revealed the Top 3 vote getters were Donny, Nicole & Zack and that Donny was the winner!.. read more.

16x38: Episode #38 - Final Nominations & Final POV Comp – Day #90 recap: “So sorry I sent you home Frankie,” Cody says sarcastically as he and the remaining HouseGuests watch the memory wall. Derrick notes that now that the game is getting down to wire, it was time for Frankie to go. In a flashback scene reminiscent of The Godfather, Derrick tells Frankie he is not safe, and will be leaving in a few hours. A little later in the HoH suite, Frankie sits down with Caleb, Cody and Derrick where the guys try to let him down easy. But Frankie has a warning; they have created “the most powerful person in the game.” Frankie notes with his “millions of followers” and sway in the jury, he tells the boys they are “looking at the person single handedly picking the winner.” Caleb and Cody shut him down, with Caleb telling him “you’re deciding nothing,” and that if it were the two of them in the final, he would “smoke” Frankie in the win. Frankie argues he’s won more, but Caleb picks apart Frankie’s game. Derrick tries to keep things calm to let Frankie exit gracefully, but Caleb is quick to tell Frankie “your road ends today.”.. read more.

16x37: Episode #37 – REWIND Episode – Redo the last POV Comp, Live Eviction #13 & the Final HoH Comp – Day #89 recap: “As much as I love Frankie in this game,” Head of Household Caleb says, he still feels when it comes to Frankie the competitor, he had “to strike first.” Nominee Frankie feels “totally blindsided,” but admits he is definitely a huge “glittery target” left in the house. Fellow nominee Victoria may be up on the block for an eighth time, but she is confident she’ll make it to the final four over Frankie. Having never even been on the block all season, Derrick is certain he’s “dodged a serious bullet,” and now has to focus on winning the rewind Veto competition so he can send Frankie home... read more.

16x36: Episode #36 – REWIND Episode – Redo last HoH Comp & Redo last Nomination Ceremony – Day #87 recap: Victoria thinks the rewound Head of Household competition is huge for all of the HouseGuests, but especially her. Because of the rewind, she now gets a “second shot at the game.” Cody doesn't want to see a “literal rewind” of the week where Frankie once again wins HoH, and Cody ends up on the block. Right after Julie announced the Rewind, Frankie goes to the other guys in the house and repeated whispered “changes nothing.” Frankie notes he did this to make sure all the men are thinking the same thing, which is stay focused on getting Victoria out. But Derrick notes in Diary Room if anyone else wins HoH this week, Frankie goes home... read more.
