The View

The View is a live daytime talk show created by Barbara Walters, Bill Geddie and Jessica Guff. The news of the day is discussed by a panel of four or five women, they are joined by celebrity guests and some shows feature musical performances.

The format of the show has proved popular enough for CBS to launch a rival afternoon show The Talk in 2010. The Australian version of the show The Circle aired on Ten between 2010 and 2012. The French version of the show Le Grand 8 |(The Great 8) has been on air since October 2012 on D8. Whilst the UK version of the show Loose Women has been on air on ITV since 1999.

Joy Behar is not returning after the current season comes to an end. Whilst Barbara Walters is retiring Summer 2014.
When Whoopi is not present, Barbara normally covers her.
Barbara only tends to appear on average 3 out of 5 shows a week. Every Friday (typically Barbara's day off) since 2011 a male guest co-host has appeared in her place.
If a member of the panel is taking part in another show or take other time off they are often covered by guest co-hosts.

The show only featured 4 permanent co-hosts between January-May 1999 and June 2006-September 2007. When the other co-hosts departed before the end of a season, they were often replaced by guest co-hosts until the beginning of the next season.
