The Wonder Years tells the story of Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) facing the trials and tribulations of youth while growing up during the 1960s. Told through narration from an adult Kevin (Daniel Stern), Kevin faces the difficulties of mantaining relationships and friendships on his way to adulthood. Kevin's life is populated by several friends and family members including his brother Wayne (Jason Hervey), sister Karen (Olivia d'Abo), mother Norma (Alley Mills), father Jack (Dan Lauria), best friend Paul Pfeiffer (Josh Saviano), and off-and-on girlfriend Winnie Cooper (Danica McKellar).

Kevin is heartbroken when he finds out Winnie has a new boyfriend Eric, and then loses his money and car in a poker game against the cooks at the country club. Returning home by hitchhiking leads to Kevin and Winnie spending a night in a barn during a storm. They arrive home in time for the Fourth of July parade where we find out the futures of each of the cast by narration.
