A big congrats to daytime television host Ellen DeGeneres is in order! This morning DeGeneres took to her Twitter account to announce that she will be hosting this year’s upcoming ‘Oscars’ for the second time. “It’s official,” she wrote “I’m hosting the #Oscars! I’d like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra.”
DeGeneres hosted the ‘Oscars’ back in 2007 and earned herself a Primetime Emmy nomination for her work. Her style is admittedly much more silly and gentle than last year’s crass host Seth MacFarlane - - but that may be exactly what The Academy is hoping for. The ‘Oscars’ took some heavy criticisms after MacFarlane chose to entertain the masses with songs about boobs and nudity. I never really understood the outrage - - I personally really enjoyed MacFarlane’s approach.
This announcement comes pretty early in the year, but the ‘Oscars’ seem to be working overtime to get everything settled early this time around. ‘Oscars’ producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron were rehired almost immediately after the last ‘Oscars’ ended, and the Academy elected a new president, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, on Tuesday.
Zadan and Meron couldn’t be happier to have DeGeneres on board as host. “We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars. As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together, and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars. There are few stars today who have Ellen's gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are."
DeGeneres added to their statement by saying "I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say -- the third time's the charm.”
Are you happy to hear that Ellen DeGeneres will be hosting the 86th installment of the ‘Oscars?’
