One of the most enduring and iconic faces of daytime television will make a triumphant return this fall, as Bob Barker will return for one day only on ‘The Price is Right.’
The legendary host turns 90 on Dec. 12, and in honor and celebration he will make an appearance on one episode of the game show he hosted for 35 years, as first reported by TVGuide.com.
While he will pre-tape his one-episode appearance to air on that Thursday, the entire week will be devoted to the famous and beloved host, focusing on his animal rights activism. There will be pet adoptions on the show, something done by Barker in the past who had long used to the show to advocate for animal health and safety. If for nothing else, Barker, a vegetarian, was known for closing the show with a signature phrase unlike any other: “help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered.”
The showcase showdown is teased to have a special twist as well, as Bob Barker-themed prize packs will be revealed and bid upon.
Before landing a job hosting ‘The Price is Right’ in 1972, Barker hosted various other game shows, but it was the hour-long CBS show featuring fabulous prices and outrageous games that made Barker famous. The host from the very first episode, Barker turned the duties over to Drew Carey in 2007. Barker has only been on the show once before since Carey took the reigns, in order to promote his book ‘Priceless.’
Executive producer Mike Richards has already extended a third invite to Barker, welcoming him back for his 100th birthday.
