The cameras follow Australian vet Dr Scott Miller at work in his surgery on Richmond Hill in London as it offers a genuine insight into the highs and lows of life at a small veterinary practice.

Natasha and Josiah show up at the clinic with eight-year-old Bam Bam the Maltese terrier, who has lost half of his body weight. Blood tests confirm Scott's suspicion that Bam Bam is diabetic and he needs immediate treatment if he is to survive. Scott's sister-in-law Dawn tells him that her children have found a sick bird that is unable to fly. The ring-necked parakeet is refusing to eat or drink and is in shock and after Scott takes the bird to the clinic for an examination he realises that it will need a special home, so he decides to try and convince Dawn into taking on another family member.

A German shepherd called Hannah is having problems with her legs and mobility. Scott takes a look at a tawny owl that has an eye injury after being hit by a vehicle in Dorset. A stray cat is brought in and head vet nurse Emma names him Ed, but he isn't micro-chipped. Emma attempts to find his owner.
