Laurel Healy returns to DC after her student loans fall through, and reluctantly goes to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy. However, Laurel is soon swept up in a web of intrigue when a meteor goes missing at the Smithsonian and people in DC start acting strangely.
As Laurel continues her investigation into Daudier's death, Daudier's daughter Rochelle comes forward with new evidence. Meanwhile, one of Laurel's friends invites her over for tea, while the government shutdown continues.
Laurel and Rochelle try to get Abby to submit to a brain scan. When that fails, they convince Anthony to impel Abby to get the scan. Meanwhile, Luke tries to negotiate a sequestrration behind Red's and Ella's backs to end the shutdown.
