Mavel's forays into feature films and television have been massively successful, so far be it from me to question anything they do... but man they sure enjoy some lengthy titles and catchy acronyms. With ABC's 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' coming this fall, Disney XD will also debut a Marvel property next month: 'Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.'
Jeph Loeb, the award-winning writer of such comic book classics as 'Batman: The Long Halloween,' became Marvel's Head of Television back in 2010. Loeb will be premiering 'Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.' at Comic-Con tomorrow; the animated series is aimed at children, featuring Hulk and four other characters from the pages of 'The Incredible Hulk' comics. As fans of the comics are well aware, these are five characters that wouldn't be teaming up with one another under normal circumstances--let alone living under the same roof, as in 'Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.'
The title character is of course The Hulk, who has reached a brand new zenith of popularity since Joss Whedon's 'Marvel's The Avengers' hit theatres. It seems that this version of Hulk is going to be more intelligent, with more personality than his animalistic feature film counterpart. Joining Hulk are She-Hulk (the cousin of Hulk who gained her powers due to a blood transfusion from Hulk himself), Red Hulk (the Army General who once hunted Hulk, who transformed himself to match his prey), A-Bomb (a friend of Hulk who transformed into a similar creature as Hulk's nemesis, Abomination) and Skaar (Hulk's warrior son from a distant planet). Talk about a motley crew.
A special two-part, back-to-back debut of 'Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.' is slated for Disney XD on August 11. This debut will be followed by a new episode of the hit cartoon 'Marvel's Avengers Assemble.' Marvel is also going cross-platform for this promotion, as 'Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. will also debut on Disney XD Online, Kindle Fire, iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch on August 11.
