Preview: "Modern Family," Christmas Express

The Pritchett and Dunphy’s are preparing for one of the most anticipated Christmas parties of the year on ABC’s “Modern Family.” This year the entire gang decides to celebrate Christmas early in “Express Christmas,” so each family member takes a traditional task to quickly complete.

Considering past “Modern Family” Christmas episodes, such as first season’s “Undeck the Halls,” anything is possible. Some of the best moments of the first season came from the Christmas episode as the writers captured the stress and hilarity of the holiday season.

It all started when Cam and Mitchell took Lily to the mall for a visit with Santa. We first meet Drew, Cam’s nemesis, who took over his caroling group. The jabs back and forth from this point forward in the show just add a new element to the show. Soon after the couple finally get to Santa after waiting in line, only to find a replacement Santa who looks nothing like the “real thing.” The complaining leads to Santa’s firing, only to find out he’s not only out of work, but homeless as well. In the spirit of Christmas Cam and Mitchell invite him over for dinner.

Meanwhile Jay and Gloria are working at compromising Christmas traditions for Manny’s sake. Though Jay is a stubborn man, he has a big heart and slowly adapts to the Columbian-style traditions Manny misses. The Dunphy’s deal with a surprising visit from Phil’s dad that is sad in its own way, but also leaves viewers grabbing their sides. Two Phil Dunphy’s is just too good to be true.

Take a break from Christmas shopping and baking to peak into the chaotic life the Christmas season brings. For at least 30 minutes you can laugh at the pains of the holidays alongside the “Modern Family” cast. You may be left with a new insight to the holiday season.
