Stanley Martin Lieber (also known as Stan Lee) was born in New York City, New York, USA on December 28, 1922. His parents were Celia and Jack Lieber, who were Jewish immigrants from Romania. His father was a dress-cutter, though after the Great Depression, he worked infrequently. When he was a mere child, his family moved to the Washington Heights neighborhood in Manhattan, where his brother, Larry Lieber, was born when Stanley was nine years old. Stanley attended the Bronx school DeWitt Clinton High School, where he learned that he enjoyed reading and writing. While in high school, Stanley took on many jobs in which he was able to satisfy his love for writing. Stanley graduated high school early at the age of 16 years old, in 1939.

Stanley became the assistant at Marvel Comics (Timely Comics at the time), who was hired by the editor himself, Joe Simon. Stanley continuously became promoted until he became editor of Marvel Comics, though before that, he created such titles as the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Hulk, the X-Men, and many more. Stan Lee is now known as a comic book legend.
