Mark Harmon

Mark Harmon was born Thomas Mark Harmon, on September 2, 1951 in Burbank, California. He comes from a family full of notable people. His father is the 1940 Heisman trophy winner Tom Harmon. His mother is the actress and painter, Elyse Knox. Success has been a common theme for him, he graduated Cum Laude from UCLA in 1974 with a degree in communications. While in school he played quarterback for their football team in ‘72(8-3) and ‘73(9-2), a team with a losing record the year before and after he left. You might expect a player with his drive, his ability, his reputation, and brains to go to the pros…nope, he decided to do carpentry and acting… with his communications degree…

His breakout role was a doctor who contracted HIV on ‘St. Elsewhere’ in 1983. He mostly stayed busy doing features, or guest work, and supporting roles as a “pretty boy” until ‘Chicago Hope’(1996). ‘The West Wing’(2002) set him up on ‘JAG’ in 2003, which started his launch to stardom, shedding his “pretty boy” image as, Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, on ‘NCIS’(2003).
