As The World Turns debuted in April 2, 1956 as the first ever half-hour long soap opera. As the story unfolded during the late fifties, the plot centered around the Hughes family. As story lines progressed, several new families came into the picture, including the Lowells, Munsons, and Snyders.

As The World Turns won 4 Daytime Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Drama Series", 4 "Outstanding Writing Team" Emmys, and over a dozen Daytime Emmys in the Outstanding Actor/Actress categories.

Bob spends one last day in his office at Oakdale Memorial as he prepares to move to Arizona with Kim. Bob thinks about everyone that he knows in Oakdale. Holden goes fishing with Ethan. Lisa notices how close John and Lucinda are following their trip to Amsterdam. Henry and Barbara enjoy married life. Jack is asked by Janet if he would to be a godfather to baby Lorenzo. Katie looks after Chris as he starts his recovery process. Janet and Dusty learn from Carly that she and Jack are going to have a baby. Alison and Casey's family give them a good send off at they prepare to leave Oakdale. Katie agrees to marry Chris after he proposes. Lily and Holden discover that Lucinda and John are back together and that Lucinda has decided to step down from World Wide. Luke listens to Reid's heartbeat inside of Chris' chest. Holden tells Lily that he is convinced that everything will work out fine for her mother and John. It becomes evident that Lily and Holden will also find their way back to one another. Susan raises a toast to Bob and Kim. Bob says a final goodbye.
