It is June 1940, and the country faces the threat of invasion. The villagers of Great Paxford are living under a cloud of fear and suspicion. Pat becomes friends with a Czech soldier stationed nearby, but her happiness at independence from Bob ends up being short lived. Laura has to face the consequences of her affair with Richard Bowers whilst Spencer and Claire’s relationship takes an unexpected twist.
