Castle comes in at number 41 on MTV’s Top 50 TV characters of 2011. Did the pop journalists get this one right? Nathan Fillion has remarkably played Richard Castle for four seasons. He has inhabited the novelist longer than any other character. It is not his most iconic. Even MTV admits that award goes to Captain Malcolm Reynolds of Firefly.
Fillon has been on our screen since the 1990’s. He had a memorable turn as a jukebox repairman on “2 Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place.” The same series that launched Ryan Reynolds into our consciousness. He then hit a home run on the series Firefly and has become a regular ensemble actor for director Joss Whedon.
Castle has proven to be a ratings magnet for ABC. The season 2 finale was viewed by over 14 million people. This episode holds the record for most views at that time slot for the network. Castle is one of the few mid-season replacement shows to find an audience. The are watching in droves.
The popularity of the character has leaked over into tie-in novels. Since 2009, ABC has realeasd one book a year in the Richard Castle name. Each one has held their own on the New York Times Best Seller List.
A new episode of Castle airs tonight on ABC. In Cuffed, Castle and Beckett will find themselves handcuffed together with no memory of how it happened. This will have important consequences for their relationship and allow the writers to play with the characters a bit. Cuffed is the last episode before the hiatus, so you can bet there will be a cliff hanger.
How do you feel about Castle and Beckett becoming a couple? Will it ruin their chemistry? Or is their more to the show that will keep you tuning in?
Tune in to ABC at 10 pm for more of Richard Castle.
