Fox greenlights M. Night Shyamalan event series ‘Wayward Pines’ starring Matt Dillon

Fox has greenlighted its very first event series, Wayward Pines, to premiere during next season in 2014. The drama hails from director M. Night Shyamalan and writer Chad Hodge (The Playboy Club), and has tapped Matt Dillon in the starring role. The series is described as a mind-bending thriller and is based on the novel Pines from Blake Crouch.

Centering on Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Dillon), Wayward Pines is the story of Burke’s challenging investigation into two missing federal agents. When he arrives in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, Burke uncovers more questions than answers and finds his very life at risk.

Fox landed the project after a very competitive bidding war. Wayward Pines writer Hodge fell in love with the concept after reading the novel. "I read it in about a day and a half and fell in love with it," Hodge said. "When closed the book was, I thought it was the perfect television show -- mystery, question marks and mythology. I wrote it in three weeks. We talked about directors attached to the script before we took it out. We took it to Shyamalan first and within two days he was attached and I flew out to Philadelphia to meet with him and we totally hit it off. We sent out the script and sold it in this great way to Fox to do it as 12-episode straight to series model."

Do you think you will tune in to watch Wayward Pines?

"Event" means they will show 3 episodes then cancel it and leave viewers fuming. As the plot twists by M. Night Shyamalan will have everyone scratching their heads trying to make sense of it. "I see a dead series."
