It was orginally called Emmerdale Farm but was renamed just Emmerdale in 1989. The central family on the show since the beginning has been the Sugdens.

Ruby is preparing herself to propose to Ali but Ali gets accidently hit in the nose by Kerry and winds up in hospital. The doctor then asks Ali if she could be pregnant and Ali admits she’s unsure, she has no idea that Kerry is eavesdropping.
Andy decides to accept the job at Home Farm, only after realising that Robert offered it to him to make a point to Lawrence. Robert is shocked and Katie is not comfortable about Andy working at Home Farm.

Moira is impressed when Charity gets the hang of life on the farm but then they are distracted by Maxine who demands more money from Moira. Charity then questions Moira about Maxine but a call from the police interrupts them.
Robert is panicking when Nicola tells Chrissie about Robert’s history in the village but he’s relieved she’s not put off. Edna refuses a drink from Lawrence and she is worried why he wants to live in the village.
Andy refuses to work at Home Farm, he doesn't want to give Robert the satisfaction. Leyla asks to be Katie’s wedding planner but she turns her down. It soon becomes clear Megan and Leyla are struggling to work together
