Elementary is definitely one of my favorite new shows! I'll admit, I'm biased, having already been fans of both the talented Jonny Lee Miller ("Hackers" and "Trainspotting") and the beautiful Lucy Liu ("Ally McBeal", "Kill Bill") for a long time. Still, I wasn't sure if yet another Sherlock Holmes remake would work, especially after the BBC's new version has done so well across the pond. But, I am very pleased to report, America's newest Sherlock is nothing short of Bloody Brilliant!
Admittedly, the first few episodes were a bit uneven, with Jonny's Sherlock berating Lucy's Dr. Joan Watson in a manner more consistent with "House" than Holmes. Then, slowly, begrudgingly, he starts to realize Watson's value as a collaborator, confidant, and eventually, friend, while Watson, a former Doctor still suffering from the loss of a patient, finds a new purpose in keeping Sherlock sane (and sober). This isn't just the beginning of a great partnership, folks -- this is the new Mulder and Scully! And everything works: the quirkiness, the unexpected sources of interesting or unusual trivia (from both of them), the deadpan funny Brit humor, it all adds up to a wonderfully fresh addition to the Holmesian legacy. I could go on but, simply put, each episode has been a treat, and I can't wait to see more!
