2x13: Beside the Dying Fire recap: The scene opens and Walkers munch on a bloody corpse when they are suddenly distracted by a helicopter flying above. They rise in unison and shamble toward the noise. Later, we see the horde wandering down the highway through an open field. There are hundreds of them. The walkers are momentarily stopped by a wooden fence, but their sheer numbers eventually produce enough pressure to push them through. It is night now and a shot rings out -- the shot that killed Shane. The walkers turn toward Hershel's farm. Inside the house, the group is worried. Where are the men? Daryl and Glenn return first. Lori pleads with them to go back out and find Rick and Shane. Meanwhile, Rick and Carl walk back to the house. "What happened?" Carl asks. "Were you guys attacked? How did Shane die?"..

"He said this group is broken. The best way to honor him is to unbreak it ... We're going to prove him wrong." Rick wants to honor Dale by restoring humanity the survivors. Inter-cut with the funeral in Hershel's field is a scene of Shane, Andrea, Daryl and T-Dog hunting down and brutally killing a pack of zombies. There is much stabbing with pitch forks and kicking in of skulls. The two scenes don't exactly jibe. Later, Hershel invites all the survivors into the house and barn. He even says that he should've done it earlier. But that hospitality isn't about to turn Shane around...

Daryl "interrogates" the young man by punching him repeatedly in the face. Daryl wants information on the men that Randall was running with. Crying and pleading, Randall says the men had "heavy stuff" in terms of ammo. They also had women and kids in their roving community. Randall then says that he isn't like the other men in the group, which had raped two young teenage girls. Horrified, Daryl kicks Randall in the face once more for good measure. Later, Daryl returns to camp and shares news: 30 men with heavy artillery and no sympathy for women...

Shane barricades himself in a yellow bus. Randall, his hands tethered together behind his back, crawls toward a knife. How did they get themselves into this predicament? FLASHBACK. Rick and Shane pull up to a four way stop of empty road. "Why'd we stop?" Shane asks. Rick wants to talk -- and not about Randall, who is locked in the back (Rick and Shane are going to drop him somewhere so he can't remember how to find his way back to the farm). Rick tells Shane that he heard about what happened at the school. Shane explains that he did what he had to do to ensure that Carl lived. Would Rick have done the same? "You just can't be the good guy and expect to live," Shane says...

Hershel tells them that they need to head back. However before they can do this, a car pulls up and they hide. Two men come up to the bar asking for Dave and Tony. Rick, Glenn and Hershel get ready for them. Back at the crash site, the Walker is getting through the windshield and Lori tries to climb to the top. The Walker grabs her hair, but she manages to stab it in the eye. She gets out only to be attacked by it again. She hits it and runs to the car for the gun. She shoots it and gets up to look around to where the car crashed to begin with...
